Life Story

I was raised in an open-minded home. My parents had been raised church-goers, but neither had been to church for a long time. I was raised to believe in God but even the name remained vague, and certainly had no connection to Jesus Christ or the gospel.

When I arrived at university, I threw myself into the social life and sports culture there. I played a lot of football, and God placed two guys, Si and Jamie, in my college team, who were both Christians. I liked them, and Si kept asking me to church, but I was not interested. I was enjoying fitting in too much.

Over the first six months at University, I became disillusioned with the shallowness of relationships, and began to wonder if this was it, if this is what being an adult amounted to. I was invited to a Christian meeting by a couple of guys on a bus back from a nightclub and, being too drunk to say no, agreed. I thought it must be wrong to lie to Christians, so I went along the next night and was convinced almost immediately that the church was different. I knew some of the folk there; there is no way they should all be hanging out together. I wanted to know what it was that caused these people to love one another. We studied through Romans, and I gained enough of a grasp of the gospel to put my trust in Christ.

In the nearly twenty years since then, I moved to London work as an accountant, and married Mim. I then trained and worked at St Helens, Bishopsgate before going up to Oak Hill to take a Masters in Theology. In that time we’ve been blessed with two boys, Harry and Tim. We’ve been at Christ Church Earlsfield since 2014.

Prayer for CCE

My prayer for CCE is my prayer for myself, and my family, too: that we would grow daily in the knowledge and fear of the Lord, that we would learn what it means to love the Lord with all our heart, mind, soul and strength, and to love our neighbours as ourselves. I pray that we would be a community that grows together through repentance and forgiveness.
